Another fine weekend for Adam!
Report by Eddie Walder

The Nicholson McLaren British Hill Climb Championship moved on from the channel Islands to wooded Wiscombe Park. The weather held perfectly despite a cold and windy day further north. The result was a 21 point score for Adam Fleetwood with a further reduction of his new course record having first taken out the Martyn Griffiths record of 34.65 from as long ago as 1991 in round 23 qualifying earlier in the day. Adam Fleetwood now leads the Nicholson McLaren British Hill Climb Championship by an astonishing 93 points from Roger Moran with Willem Toet now third for an MP88 2-3. There was good news from Rob Turnbull whose suspected major engine trouble that sidelined him in the Channel Islands turned out to be an electrical fault.

Round 23
The unfortunate Simon Durling suffered a suspected clutch failure in his first class run and did not start again. Martin Groves mysteriously failed to qualify.

In the run off Trevor Willis visited the undergrowth and Rob Turnbull returned with a vengeance after qualifying second fastest but was eclipsed by Adam Fleetwood just shy of the course record. Third to the consistent Willem Toet who now has the measure of the Pilbeam, and fourth to Paul Haimes improving on his Channel Islands outings.

Round 24
Mark Coley qualified in the GR55 V6 as did local specialist Basil Pitt in the 2 litre MP87. Martin Groves squeezed under the wire this time. Consecutive top 12 runners Haimes and Turnbull ran identical times to take eight points apiece. Roger Moran went second but, over a second and a half quicker, the plaudits went to Adam Fleetwood for taking nearly half a second off that thirteen year record!

Scores round up
Adam Fleetwood now leads the Nicholson McLaren British Hill Climb Championship by an astonishing 93 points from Roger Moran with Willem Toet now third for an MP88 2-3. Unless Graeme Wight Junior can get off the blocks fast when his new car appears, his current fifth position now looks under threat from Mike Dean, Roger Fleetwood and particularly from many years a front runner Rob Turnbull.
